Don't oil the squeaky wheels!!

My friend recently recommended this book. The title itself is very catchy. "Don't oil the squeaky wheels and other 19 other contrarian ways to improve your leadership effectiveness" by Wolf J Rinke.

The grammar checking in this blogger pics the word 'contrarian' as a possible mistake. No wonder, I, too, came across this word the first time. Does this mean "out of box" thinking? It certainly looks that way.

Consider the chapter headings: Knowledge is not power; Management and Leadership theories do not work; Be selfish; Don't manage people; Don't be proud; Don't be Tough; Don't Play to Win; Don't prove yourself; Don't have people work for you....

It's interesting; and amusing. It really proves how an intelligent man can thik contrarily to everyone's belief. Read it. I'm sure you will like it.

Plain Language

I happened to read a post on 'simple English':

I sometimes agree with this entirely. Every profession has its own lingo, but IT professionals seem to go overboard with their peculiar choice of expression. Before anybody gets me wrong, let me clarify that I am also an IT professional. I have a very strong urge to shout whenever I hear such incomprehensible collation of words that can better be expressed in simple words! The last sentence is an example!

There is a plain English campaign in the UK which has taken on itself to cleanse the system that uses gobbledygook (I hope i spelt it right!). Legal profession is a prime target for them. Can you believe that they have forced many government organization and insurance companies to change their documents so that they could be understood by common man? They did just that. They have also published some very useful publications that can be downloaded from their website.

I have similar grievance against some Tamil writers too. I have no way to guage how many people care about it. They need to read Kalki, Thevan etc to understand what simplicity is all about.

My first post

I take inspiration from one of my net friends who has started ahead of me and is already roaring ahead!

I am an avid blog reader. I admire many bloggers who take some minutes out to blog their thoughts everyday. The trick is to post everyday. Let me try that.
